Kindness is one of the most underestimated forces in the world. A kind word can heal. A kind act can restore hope. And according to Scripture, God's kindness is what leads people to repentance — not His anger, not His judgment, but His kindness.

Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, which means it's supernatural — not just being nice, but being good in the way God is good. It's tender, deliberate, and often costly.

This study explores the kindness of God, the call to be kind in a harsh world, and the ripple effects of living with a kind heart.

1

The Kindness of God

Experiencing God's tender, deliberate goodness toward us.

Romans 2:4
"Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?"

Insight: It's not fire and brimstone that changes hearts — it's kindness. God's goodness is so rich that it moves us to turn around.

Luke 6:35
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil."

Insight: God is kind even to the ungrateful and evil. His kindness isn't earned by behavior — it's an expression of His nature.

Ephesians 4:32
"And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

Insight: The standard for our kindness is how God treated us in Christ. We're kind because we've been shown kindness beyond what we deserved.

The Call to Be Kind

Why kindness matters and how it reflects God's character.

Colossians 3:12
"Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance;"

Insight: Kindness is something we 'put on' — like clothing. It's a deliberate choice we make as God's chosen people.

Galatians 5:22-23
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Insight: Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit — evidence of God's presence in our lives. It's produced by abiding in Christ, not by trying harder.

Micah 6:8
"He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"

Insight: God requires us to 'love mercy' — not just practice it, but delight in it. Kindness should be our default, not our exception.

Reflection Questions

1

Have you 'put on' kindness today, or is it still in the closet?

2

Is kindness a natural overflow of your relationship with God, or something you force?

3

What does it look like to 'love mercy' — to actually delight in being kind?

The Ripple Effect of Kindness

How one act of kindness multiplies outward.

Proverbs 11:17
"The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh."

Insight: Kindness blesses the giver as much as the receiver. Being kind is good for your own soul — cruelty damages you from the inside out.

Proverbs 31:26
"She opens her mouth with wisdom. Kind instruction is on her tongue."

Insight: The Proverbs 31 woman is known for wisdom and kindness in her speech. The words we speak can be instruments of kindness that build others up.

Proverbs 19:22
"That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar."

Insight: What makes a person truly attractive isn't wealth or status — it's kindness. A kind person draws others in.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Kind God, thank You for Your kindness that led me to repentance. Help me to reflect Your tender, deliberate goodness to everyone I encounter — especially those who don't expect it. Give me kind words, kind actions, and a kind heart. Grow the fruit of kindness in me by Your Spirit. Let my life be a ripple of Your goodness in a world that desperately needs it. Amen.
