Sarah

Mother of Nations

Their Story

Sarah waited longer than anyone should have to for a promise to come true. Decades of barrenness in a culture where a woman's worth was measured by her children. She followed Abraham into the unknown, endured famine, was taken into foreign kings' households, and watched her servant bear the child she couldn't.

When God finally told her she'd have a son at 90, she laughed. Not from joy — from the bitter humor of someone who'd stopped hoping. But God had the last laugh: her son's name, Isaac, means 'he laughs.' Her laughter of doubt became laughter of delight.

Character

Strong-willed and fiercely protective. Sarah endured decades of disappointment without abandoning the journey. She could be harsh (especially toward Hagar), impatient with God's timing, and quick to doubt. But her raw honesty — laughing in God's face — is strangely endearing. She didn't pretend to have faith she didn't feel.

Legacy

Mother of Isaac, grandmother of Israel. Hebrews 11 honors her faith. Peter calls her an example for all women. Her story is proof that God's promises don't expire — even when our patience does.
